Kelly & Ryan! Valporaiso, Indiana Wedding Photography

July 31, 2014

“We’re all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we go with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.” -Dr. Seuss

This couple high fived after signing the marriage certificate.  Which is just one of many reasons I think they are totally fabulous.

When I initiallyl walked into the ladies hotel room where they were getting ready, the first thing Kelly did was pick up a circular floral/leafy thing and say, “I’m wearing this, on my head!”  Inside I did a little fist bump, because while I love everything about a sweet super traditional wedding, I LOVE when brides do things to make it their own.

Kelly and Ryan had their engagement session done in Mishawaka [it was pretty great, so you should probably click HERE and check it out, if you don’t remember it ;)], and they’ll be headed out for a grand adventure of living in Alaska in a few months!  Their wedding was soooo beautiful.  Not only did the rain hold out for a GORGEOUS ceremony and portraits, but the whole day was just full of so much love!  There were tears when Kelly walked down the aisle, and smiles, and hugs, and both Kelly’s twin sister [maid of honor] and Ryan’s friend [best man] did AMAZING jobs at the speeches.

I’ve said it before, but I really do believe the best brides hire me.  If they were moving to South Bend instead of Alaska, I’m pretty sure Kelly and I would become good friends.

You two were so easy to work with and your wedding really was magical!  I loved everything about it, and am so excited to share the gorgeous images of your day with you!

ps: Special thanks to Alex who second shot with me!  You can see more of his work HERE.

Most memorable moment?

R: The big reveal/first look, when I saw my wife in her dress for the first time.

K:  Our first look.  It was nice to share that special moment with just him.

Advice for future brides?

K: Have fun and enjoy the planning!  You only get to do this once, don’t let the stress of planning suck the fun out of it.  Make it special to you, whatever that may be.

Funniest memory?

R:  The flower girl meticulously dropping the flowers down the long path to the gazebo.

K:  My grandma calling herself the “glow worm” in reference to her dance moves.

If you could do it all over would you change anything?

R: I would find a way to get the guests from both sides of the family to mingle more.

K:  I wouldn’t change a thing!  Yes, there were things that didn’t go as I had planned but we had fun and nothing could have made me any happier.

We enjoyed a week long stay-cation.  It was completely relaxing.

Lastly, are there any other vendors that you LOVED and want to give a shout out to?

We’d like to give a shout out to Barry from Shoreline.  He was such a pleasure to work with and incredibly helpful. And a huge thank you to Sarah Jo and Michael.  Not only did they bring all those delicious desserts all the way from Stevens Point, Wisconsin, they also helped man the drink table at the last minute.  We’re so thankful for all of our talented and crafty friends!  ff

You’re right – wedding day high fives are the best!! I absolutely love the portrait of them under that gnarly tree!! And the one of Ryan behind Kelly, arms crossed over and around her, giving her a top-of-the-head kiss. It’s a tie. :-)
