Caitlin & Zachary! South Bend, Indiana Wedding Photography

March 27, 2015

“Each time you happen to me all over again.” – Edith Wharton, The Age of Innocence

Remember when I blogged about Caitlin and Zachary.  I’m not sure if you noticed or not, but she has a LOVE of all things green and Irish, and totally had green items in each outfit during their engagement session.  And now…. Zachary and Caitlin are married!  Their day was a beautiful, very green, very Irish, very Notre Dame wedding and reception!

One of the coolest things about their wedding was how so many details incorporated Caitlin’s ancestors.  I can’t remember exactly, but there were earrings, bracelets, necklace and other elements from mom, grandma’s and great grandmas.  I did this sort of thing for my own wedding, and I just think it’s so cool to intertwine your history and special people into your wedding day.

Additionally, I ran into Laura from MichaelAngelos, at an event the week after Caitlin and Zachary’s wedding, and she told me Caitlin was the first bride to request her flowers spell out Zachary’s name!  Caitlin had read about a Victorian tradition where brides would spell out their groom’s name with their bouquet flowers.  Her bouquet included mini calla lilies (scientific name starts with “z”), snapdragons (scientific name starts with “a”), lily of the valley (scientific name starts with “c”), hydrangea, alstromeria, ranunculus, and yew bush- put that together and you’ve got “Zachary” out of flowers! (It also had frilled tulips, delphinium, and muscari).  I LOVE this idea.  So cool!

While it wasn’t necessarily the warmest day, the skies were blue, and there was no snow [well, there were a few piles of snow, but we did our best to avoid those ;)]  And this couple, I can’t even tell you how fabulous they are, and how sweet they are to each other.

Caitlin and Zachary, I wish you the very best!  Ashley and I loved photographing your day!  It was so much fun!

Most memorable moment?

C:  Waiting in the foyer with my dad before the ceremony, and hearing him say he was happy and not nervous. That meant a lot.

Z:  Praying in the Lady Chapel with my brand-new wife.

Advice for future brides/grooms?

C: Make sure you look at yourself before you leave for the ceremony just to see how beautiful you look. I was halfway out the door before I realized I hadn’t seen how I looked all dressed up- dress, veil, hair, makeup. Take a few seconds in front of a mirror, you’re allowed!

Z: Just enjoy the moment!

Funniest memory?

C:  When our first dance song started playing and it was a totally different version than we were expecting! Same song, same artist, just different version!

Z:  Our priest calling me by the wrong name (after the vows, don’t worry!)- and it was the name of one of my groomsmen. I tried to get him to take my place, but he was already married.

If you could do it all over would you change anything?

C:  I think I try to would worry less about the weather, but I would probably fail.

Z:  The details don’t matter, I’m just happy I’m married to my beautiful wife.

Unfortunately we both had to return to work, so we’re looking forward to taking a trip together in the future. Ideas welcome!

Lastly, are there any other vendors that you LOVED and want to give a shout out to?

We loved working with Maike (and assistant Ashley) for the photos! So much fun! Caitlin’s parents did a lot of shindig-throwing for the wedding guests at the Inn at Saint Mary’s, so thanks to them for putting up with all of us. Amber P. from ND Catering by Design was just awesome, and was great to work with. Also, special shout-out to the random people outside the reception space who wanted a selfie with us. Thanks for making us feel special!
