Obaji Family! Indianapolis, Indiana Family Photography

November 29, 2017

“My children are the reason I laugh, smile and want to get up every morning.” -Gena Lee Nolan

If you’ve been keeping up and reading the blog the last few weeks, you’ll see a common theme: sucky weather.  While the weather today and this past weekend has been GLORIOUS, here in Indy, the October/early November pretty much struggled most weekends.

We had big plans to hang out outside, by the Palladium in Carmel, with beautiful fall colors, and just a bit of a November chill in the air.

Instead, we had to toss all plans and improvise because the day of their shoot it POURED BUCKETS!  Like, flooding in the streets, 10 seconds outside = soaking, kind of pouring.  There was absolutely no way we were going to make their formal family shoot [with a sweet gender reveal] work outside.

So instead, we hit up The Speak Easy Downtown!  For those who don’t know, it’s a co-working space that also hosts events and is AMAZING to take photos in.  Seriously so so cool.  They have another location in southern Broad Ripple that my husband works out of, but the one downtown, is [I think], their newest location.  Both locations are definitely on my bucket list of places I want to shoot a wedding in some day [hint hint: shoot me an e-mail if you’re getting married at either Indianapolis Speak Easy!  I want to chat!!!]

And you guys, for such a rainy day, and a new unfamiliar location, these little girls, Aris and Athena, did AMAZING.  They were so adorable in their sweet floofy dresses.  Aris is 18 months old, so there WAS bribery involved in the form of gummy bears [yum], but we got some gorgeous family heirloom shots during this shoot, for sure!

I don’t do a ton of super formal shoots, but Konye is Nigerian [remember, they had two weddings: their white wedding and their Nigerian wedding].  In Nigeria, family photos [from what I understand], are super formal.  So we made it happen!  I think Lindsay and I agree though, next time, we need something a bit more casual, where the kiddos can play a bit easier, and maybe get a little dirty :).

Speaking of kiddos, baby # 3 is on the way, and, if you scroll down below, you’ll see the surprise!

Congratulations Lindsay and Konye!  Your two daughters are delightful and I’m so excited to meet baby number 3 this spring!

*starting above with one of my favorites!  Konye and Lindsay were reciting a poem/book for Aris that talks about being strong and smart and kind. It was soooo delightful to watch them remind their daughter of all the good things she holds in her with this beautiful poem.

*above, Aris was maybe not 100% into having her photos taken, so we got some fun shots of the rest of the family watching her be silly.
